About Us
The Institute Technology Management Unit–Agri Business Incubation Centre (ITMU-ABIC) of ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute (ICAR-CAZRI) has been established under the National Agricultural Innovation Fund (NAIF) scheme of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) with the vision of promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology commercialization in the agriculture and allied sectors, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. The ITMU was implemented through XI plan scheme and subsequently established as ITMU in 2006 – ABIC in 2019 at ICAR-CAZRI.
The Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU) at ICAR-CAZRI further strengthens the innovation ecosystem by facilitating the identification, protection, management, and commercialization of intellectual assets generated through research and development activities. The unit supports technology transfer, industry partnerships, licensing, and effective management of the institute’s intellectual property portfolio. Through awareness programs, capacity-building initiatives, and assistance in filing patents and other intellectual property rights, the ITMU promotes innovation and enhances the utilization of research outputs for sustainable socio-economic development in arid and semi-arid regions.
It facilitates IP management, technology transfer/commercialization and promotion of agribusiness entrepreneurship as per ICAR guidelines. ABIC is dedicated to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship to supports startups and providing access to innovative agro-technologies, modern infrastructure, capacity-building programs, mentorship, handholding support, and assistance in establishing successful business ventures and market linkages. The incubator serves as a catalyst for entrepreneurship development by strengthening integrated processing capabilities and providing expert technical guidance on quality assurance, testing standards, certification, and regulatory compliance.
The ITMU-ABIC has created a conducive ecosystem that nurtures startups, enterprises, farmer-producer organizations, and other stakeholders across the agricultural value chain. It also promotes sustainable business growth by providing access to advanced facilities for product development, prototype development, market testing, technology validation, and research support. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure for value-added processing of arid and allied agricultural products, ITMU-ABIC further encourages entrepreneurship in the production and commercialization of quality seed and planting materials.

Objectives
  • To promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and agribusiness incubation by creating awareness about the commercial potential of technologies developed for arid and semi-arid regions.
  • To facilitate the commercialization and transfer of agricultural technologies through support to startups, agribusiness ventures, industry linkages, and end-users.
  • To strengthen the innovation ecosystem through knowledge sharing, networking, capacity building, and promotion of intellectual property rights (IPR) awareness among researchers, innovators, and stakeholders.
  • To identify, evaluate, improve, and support innovative technologies and recognize inventors and entrepreneurs for their contributions toward sustainable socio-economic development.
